For at least 4 weeks prior to your therapy and throughout your treatment plan, you must refrain from sun exposure or using solariums. Your risk of burning, blistering, and pigment changes in the skin, such as post-inflammatory hyper- or hypo-pigmentation, can increase with any type of exposure. Prior to your treatment, it's also crucial to avoid using fake tans, and on the day of your session, make sure the region is free of all artificial pigments, including makeup.
You will be asked to arrive 10 minutes early for your initial consultation so that you have enough time to fill out the relevant documentation before being transported to one of our treatment rooms. Once you have a clear grasp of the treatment plan, your SKIN MED doctor will go through the following with you:
- Visual assessment of your skin
- A discussion of any prior treatments
- How the laser functions
- How to prepare for your treatments
- How to take care of your skin for long-lasting effects
- Potential negative effects
- A personalized treatment plan that details all available payment choices

Immediately following the treatment, the affected area will feel similar to sunburn, with red, warm skin. This response typically lasts between 2 and 12 hours for the majority of patients, but in some situations can last up to 48 hours after therapy. If these effects persist for more than 48 hours after therapy, please contact your clinic.
It is also recommended that you avoid hot showers, baths, pools, spas, steam, saunas, and the gym for at least 48 hours after treatment; this period may be prolonged if the treated area is still heated or sensitive.

The number of treatments necessary is determined by the condition being treated. For the majority of clients, we recommend beginning with a course of six treatments; however, clients with specific issues, such as Melasma or Acne Scarring, may require additional treatments, depending on the severity of the damage.
